Forbes recently reported Registered Nurses as one of the top recession-proof jobs and health care was ranked as the job market's biggest gain. Forbes looked to the online job site Vault.com to view the current job market. Vault.com developed a list of recession-proof jobs by examining all the 1.2 million jobs it aggregates through its partner site simplyhired.com and then determining the ones that were available in the greatest number. In doing so, the job at the top of the list was Registered Nurse. Much is debated about this report. New graduates who continue to search for a job - many months or even over a year - especially question these facts. In addition, many hospitals all over the country have been in a hiring freeze for the past year or so. Many healthcare professionals continue to question the results; however, we also must consider the fact that nurses are still in demand thanks to a nursing shortage that will continue to intensify as baby boomers age.
