#trustafftraveler Spotlight: Tina S.

Everyone meet Tina! She has been on 4 assignments now and does not plan on slowing down. Even though she misses home, she loves being able to travel to new places while doing what she loves.

Her recruiter nominated her for this week’s spotlight because she is very relatable and has a great attitude to help inspire others in the traveling nurse field.

Tell us about YOU! Where are you from? Family? Friends? Pets?

Hi there,  I’m Tina 👋,  I am from Colorado. I have been married for 27 years as of this month and I have one four-legged fur baby named Buddy – he is a 16-year-old Jack Russell.

Why did you decide to go into healthcare?

It is something I have always enjoyed doing for as long as I can remember. It is important to me to make a difference and to help others as much as I can.

What prompted you to start traveling?

I needed to figure out my niche, if you will. Having been a CNA, then LPN, prior to obtaining a BSN, and then getting my Masters, I have been fortunate to be able to work in some awesome positions. Getting older, I felt I needed to figure out which of these areas is where I wanted to excel in and devote my full attention to going forward. trustaff has given me that opportunity without having to jump permanent positions or have my resume look bad from frequent job changes!

What was your first assignment like?

It was in Grand Forks, North Dakota – during a bitter cold December.

What’s your favorite thing about traveling?

I love seeing how things can be done so differently, with the same goal or patient outcome! And of course, meeting so many awesome nurses!!

What is the most challenging part about traveling? How do you overcome it?

The hardest part is not having my husband and dog with me always. North Dakota was way too cold for Buddy, my fur baby, even in his Parka!!

How many assignments have you taken and where?

I have been on 4 assignments – North Dakota, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Missouri!

What advice would you have for someone who is thinking about starting their travel career?

Go for it!! However, I do not advise those just starting out to have multiple agencies. If you are not dedicated to them, how can you expect them to be dedicated to you? Do your homework, check multiple agencies, and go with the one you feel a connection with. For me, trustaff has been awesome, caring, and they are not afraid to stand up for their nurses if need be.
