#trustaffTraveler Spotlight: Melissa M.

We would like to introduce you to Melissa, she has been on 3 assignments and enjoys being able to challenge herself as well as further her career while traveling and experiencing new places.

Her recruiter nominated her for this week’s spotlight to share her strong personality and her great advice on how to reach your goals and grow as a nurse while traveling.

Tell us about YOU! Where are you from? Family? Friends? Pets?

Hey, I’m Melissa 👋.  I was born and raised in Ohio and I have an amazing husband and 2 kids!

Why did you decide to go into healthcare?

My grandma was my motivation to go into healthcare. I was already passionate about taking care of people, but when she was in a situation where she did not receive proper care, I knew I had to go into healthcare so that I could help take care of her and others who need it as she did.

What prompted you to start traveling?

It was time for a change and I wanted to do something that would challenge me. My decision to travel has created so many opportunities for me and I have experienced so much growth through all of this.

What was your first assignment like?

My first assignment was incredible. I met the most amazing team of nurses close to one of my favorite family vacation spots!

What’s your favorite thing about traveling?

I can have my full-time job and travel all in one while reaching my career goals.

What is the most challenging part about traveling? How do you overcome it?

One of the biggest challenges is some of the messes you walk into. Many times an assignment is much more difficult until you and your fellow nurses become more comfortable with each other. However, you do have to be ready to do your job and do it well. Do not get nervous when you are thrown into a situation, own it. Also, I quickly realized there is no place like home.

How many assignments have you taken and where?

I have taken 3 assignments and counting. The first two were in Virginia and now Ohio. It is good to be back in my hometown!

What advice would you have for someone who is thinking about starting their travel career?

Do it! Even if the first assignment is pretty close to home, do it. My recruiter Kelli is amazing, and she helps me travel locally so I can reach my goals and be close to home at the same time.
