Blog/Finding Strength on the Road
September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, foster open conversations and remind ourselves and each other that help is always available. For healthcare travelers who often face unique emotional and mental health challenges, this month is a powerful reminder that no one has to navigate those struggles alone.
At Trustaff, we recognize that while travel assignments offer adventure and growth, they can also bring moments of isolation and emotional fatigue. That’s why we’re proud to offer support through the ACT program, a resource designed to help our travelers prioritize their mental health and well-being, not just during Suicide Prevention Month but every day of the year.
Traveling healthcare professionals are some of the most resilient people out there. You adapt to new environments, jump into unfamiliar teams and provide critical care wherever you're needed. But behind the strength and flexibility, just like all healthcare professionals many travelers experience:
Loneliness from being far from family and friends
Burnout from intense, emotionally demanding work
Anxiety about new assignments, housing or workplace dynamics
Pressure to always “be okay” and keep moving forward
These feelings are valid, and they’re more common than you might think. According to the CDC, suicide is a leading cause of death in the U.S., and healthcare workers are at a higher risk due to the emotional toll of their work. That’s why it’s so important to talk about mental health openly and without stigma.
The ACT (Advocacy, Career, Tools) program, a proprietary program available to travelers from all Ingenovis Health companies, includes resources to support the mental and emotional well-being of our travelers. Through the ACT program, travelers have access to:
Confidential mental health resources
24/7 support lines for crisis intervention
Educational materials on stress management, burnout and self-care
Peer support and community connections
Guidance from Trustaff’s internal support team who are trained to help you find the right resources
Whether you’re struggling with something big or just need someone to talk to, the ACT program is here to help you feel seen, heard and supported in all stages of your career. To access ACT program resources and request support, log in to your traveler dashboard or send an email to ACT@ingenovishealth.com.
Suicide Prevention Month is about more than awareness, it’s about action. Here are a few ways you can participate:
Check in on your fellow travelers. A simple “How are you really doing?” can open the door to a meaningful conversation
Share resources. Let others know about the ACT program and other mental health tools available to them
Take care of yourself. Prioritize rest, set boundaries and make time for things that bring you joy
Know the signs. Learn how to recognize when someone might be struggling and how to respond with compassion
If you or someone you know is in crisis, please don’t wait. Call or text the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline for free, confidential support 24/7.
At Trustaff, we believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. You are more than your role, you are a whole person and your well-being matters. Whether you’re on assignment in a new city or between contracts, we’re here to walk alongside you.
This Suicide Prevention Month, let’s commit to being there for ourselves and each other. Let’s ACT with awareness, compassion and trust.
