Dietitian Qualifications

If you're looking to apply for travel dietitian jobs, you'll need a bachelor's degree in nutrition or a related field. You'll also need an active license or proper accreditation in one of the 50 states and one to two years of recent experience working as a dietitian. Some facilities may require additional certifications based on the needs of their specific units. 

Dietitians should also have a passion for healthy living and a genuine care for patient well-being. Working in a travel role demands adaptability, cooperative skills and individual initiative. 

Travel Dietitian Job Description

Travel dietitians will work to create custom menu plans while overseeing food preparation. You'll educate your patients on health and nutrition, helping them with their goals and explaining their specific care plan to them. As a traveling dietitian, you'll complete this work at each facility for a set time before moving on to the next assignment elsewhere. 

Duties & Responsibilities

Your day-to-day responsibilities as a traveling dietitian will cover a range of duties. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Patient consultation: 

    Collaborate with patients to understand their dietary needs, preferences and restrictions

  • Nutritional assessments: 

    Conduct thorough examinations to determine patients' dietary requirements

  • Tailored plans: 

    Design personalized nutrition plans that align with patients' medical conditions and goals

  • Education: 

    Provide patients with clear and understandable dietary guidance to improve their health

  • Collaboration: 

    Work closely with medical teams to ensure holistic patient care

  • Documentation: 

    Accurately record patient details and progress to maintain comprehensive medical records
