GI Endoscopy Tech Duties and Responsibilities
As a gastrointestinal tech, you will work alongside doctors and nurses who diagnose, track and treat gastrointestinal issues using an endoscope. This long and flexible tube has a camera and light attached so physicians can examine the inside of the digestive tract.
Whether in a hospital or clinic, your primary responsibility is to ensure the endoscopic procedure runs safely and smoothly. From colonoscopies to upper GI endoscopies, your duties will include:
Prepping rooms and equipment before endoscopic procedures
Assisting with positioning patients
Monitoring patients
Supporting the physicians and nurses as needed
Collecting specimens
Sterilizing and cleaning up after the procedure
