Postpartum Nurse Qualifications
If you want to become a mother-baby nurse, you'll need to meet the following qualifications:
An active state-issued nursing license
BLS and NRP certifications for most assignments
One to two years of recent postpartum nursing experience

Postpartum Travel Nurse Job Duties and Responsibilities
As a postpartum RN, you'll carefully monitor both mother and child post-birth, watching for any complications that may arise. You'll also counsel new parents on the first steps of infant care before their release from the hospital.
Your duties will differ depending on the facility, though they generally include:
Monitoring vital signs for mothers and newborns.
Assessing recovery progress after delivery or cesarean section.
Administering medications to both adult and infant patients.
Providing breastfeeding support and lactation education.
Conducting newborn assessments and screenings.
Teaching infant care, safe sleep practices and recognizing warning signs.
Responding to postpartum or newborn emergencies.
Documenting care in electronic medical records systems.
You will work closely with obstetricians, pediatricians and lactation consultants, and must balance clinical expertise with compassionate patient care.
