What to Expect at Your First TravCon

Blog/What to Expect at Your First TravCon

September 8, 2025

If you're a traveling healthcare professional, attending TravCon—the nation’s largest conference dedicated to travel nurses, therapists and allied health professionals—is a unique opportunity to be surrounded by others who are sharing in the same adventure.

Held annually in Las Vegas, TravCon offers a unique blend of education, networking and fun. Whether you're a seasoned traveler or just starting out, your first time at TravCon can be both exhilarating and overwhelming.

The Trustaff team has attended TravCon for many years and we've put together our top five essential tips to help you thrive if it's your first time joining the excitement:

Soak in the TravCon Experience

TravCon is more than just a conference; it’s a celebration of the travel healthcare lifestyle. This year’s conference is September 21-24 and you can register here. You’ll find:

  • Educational sessions on licensing, contracts, taxes and clinical skills

  • Exhibitor booths featuring staffing agencies, housing services, scrubs, tech tools and more

  • Networking opportunities with fellow travelers and industry experts

  • Social events like pool parties, happy hours and the famous TravCon AfterParty

  • Freebies and giveaways—from swag bags to raffles, you’ll leave with more than just knowledge

1. Plan Ahead, But Stay Flexible

TravCon offers a packed schedule, so it’s smart to review the agenda in advance and prioritize sessions that pique your interest. Are you looking to learn about tax strategies? Interested in finding a new agency? Want to meet other travelers in your specialty? Just here to lay by the pool?

Mark those sessions and booths on your schedule—and don’t miss breakfast and lunch in the exhibit hall, included in your ticket price—but leave room for spontaneity. Some of the best connections and insights happen in hallway conversations or impromptu events.

2. Pack Smart

Las Vegas in September is hot, think 90s during the day, but you’ll mostly be indoors and the conference rooms can be chilly. Attire for daytime is casual comfortable, with attendees in everything from scrubs and sweats to business-professional dress.

We can’t say it enough: Comfortable shoes are a MUST. Between the exhibitor hall and exploring the Strip, you’ll really be getting those steps in.

Don’t forget:

  • A refillable water bottle

  • A portable charging pack for your phone

  • Pain relievers and/or hydration mixes

  • An extra empty bag to bring home swag and giveaways

  • Evening attire for social events—be sure to check this years' official AfterParty theme!

  • Bonus Tip: If you plan to hit the pool or attend outdoor events, pack swimwear and flip-flops.

3. Network Like a Pro

TravCon is a golden opportunity to build your professional network. Don’t be shy! Everyone is there to connect and already shares a common interest. Introduce yourself, ask questions and exchange contact info.

Whether you're chatting with a recruiter or bonding with fellow travelers over shared experiences, jump in the photo booth with a stranger or make a new friend in the elevator. You’ll learn quickly to look for the TravCon badges to find other attendees roaming the casino floor.

Conversation Starter: “Is this your first TravCon?” or “Where are you visiting from?” are great icebreakers to get things rolling.

4. Explore Las Vegas Wisely

While TravCon is the main event, you’ll also want to enjoy a little bit of Las Vegas. The conference is held at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, so you’re already close to world-class dining, entertainment and attractions. However, Vegas can be overwhelming and expensive if you’re not prepared.

  1. If you think you can walk there, check twice. Distances can be very deceiving on the Strip!

  2. Set a budget for gambling and stick to it.

  3. Stay hydrated and pace yourself—Vegas nightlife is intense and casinos can distort your sense of time.

  4. Check out free attractions like the Bellagio fountains or Fremont Street Experience.

Local Tip: If it’s your first time in Vegas, it can be a surprise to learn smoking is allowed in casino common areas. If you’re sensitive to smoke, look ahead online for designated non-smoking spaces.

5. Follow Up After the Conference

The connections you make at TravCon don’t end when the conference does. After you return home, take time to follow up with new contacts. Send a quick thank-you message, connect on LinkedIn or schedule a call with a recruiter you met. If someone stood out, reach out to them right away so they don’t get lost in the post-Vegas recovery haze.

Pro Tip: Reflect on what you learned and how it can impact your travel career long-term. Consider writing a blog post or sharing your experience on social media to inspire others.

It Is What You Make It

Your first TravCon will be a whirlwind of learning, laughter and inspiration. Whether you're there to find your next assignment, learn about travel healthcare trends or simply connect with others who understand your lifestyle, you’ll walk away energized and empowered.

This year Trustaff will be in the exhibit hall alongside the other Ingenovis Health brands. Be sure to stop by and see us at booth #205 to say hello, pick up some Trustaff branded gear and enjoy some special TravCon surprises.

We can’t wait to see you in Vegas!
